Quick Predictions

I need to make my predictions really quick before the show actually happens. Please note- I will not have The Curious Case of Benjamin Button win anything. It's a sham that that B movie got here in the first place.

Ok....

Best Picture:
Slumdog Millionaire- my pick
Milk- my far distant 2nd pick
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
The Curious Case of Crap

Best Director:
(see note)
Danny Boyle in Slumdog Millionaire- winner!
Stephen Daldry in The Reader
David Fincher in The Curious Case of Why This Movie Got Nominated
Ron Howard in Frost/Nixon
Gus Van Sant in Milk

Best Actor:
Richard Jenkins in The Visitor
Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn in Milk- my second pick if the underdog is ignored
Brad Pitt in A Very Annoying Movie
Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler-- My underdog pick

Best Actress:
Anne Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie in Changeling
Melissa Leo in Frozen Waters
Meryl Streep in Doubt
Kate Winslet in The Reader- obvious choice and if Angie wins I'm kicking something

Best Supporting Actor:
Josh Brolin in Milk
Phillip Seymor Hoffman in Doubt- he would win if a dead guy wasn't also nominated.
Robert Downy Jr. in Tropic Thunder
Heath Ledger in Dark Knight- this is a no brainer. Not thrilled with it, but it's going to happen.
Micheal Shannon in Revolutionary Road

Best Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams in Doubt- I really want her to win but it will be close
Viola Davis in Doubt
Penelope Cruz in Vicky Christina Barcelona
Taraji P. Henson in The Stupid Annoying Movie that was Nominated way too much
Marisa Tomei in The Wrester- I think she is our underdog here and has a great chance

Best Screenplay:
Frozen River
Happy-Go-Lucky
In Bruges
Milk- This is the chance for Milk to get an award.
Wall-E (ummm.... am I the only one who realizes there are like 2 lines of writing in this movie?)

Best Adapted Screenplay:
The Bad Movie with an Stupid Plot of Age That Can't Actually Happen and House Would laugh At It
Doubt
Frost/Nixon- want it to win just because of the historical importance of WHAT it's based on. Yay journalism!!
Slumdog Millionaire- this is the little engine that could and it's so different from what we normally get
The Reader

Misc:
The Stupid Movie with Brad Pitt could win Make-Up but I think The Dark Knight ought to win instead

Note: Best Director has a 98% chance of following Best Film. However, if Slumdog does NOT win best picture it's worth noting that Slumdog has zero acting nods and I think this would be the time to step up and give it to the director instead. Ron Howard has had better pictures and I'm not sure this is the film to pat him on the back for in honor of all his other films. Gus Van Kamp is my waaaaaay second pick.

Fun Facts: If The Curious Case doesn't win anything it will be the largest snub EVER in Academy history. We can only hope- they are nominated 13 times and I think it would be hilarious if they lose all 13.
Taraji Henson in Doubt was on screen only 14 minutes and in 2 scenes. If she wins she will also be the winner with the shortest on screen time. Right now Anthony Hopkins as Hannible Lector has that spot with only 16 minutes.

Yay!
